bowl with vessels
Drawing on the traditions of both silversmithing and still life, Bowl with Vessels takes familiar items of tableware and abstracts them it into pure forms with two of the pieces appearing solid whilst two are open at their top and bottom. All of the pieces sit on a reflective steel base which simultaneously references the table as a functional and symbolic space and frames the objects. The reflections visible within this space expand the reach of the physical forms. One of the gold-coloured cups sits half on and half off the base, with both the base and the table-top visible through the top of the cup, prompting consideration of such opposites as inside / outside and contained / uncontained.
